Social Networking

I started a new class this week. I was extremely excited to dig into something that actually pertained to my degree and not just the core educational classes. Media Influences on American Culture; sounds pretty interesting doesn't it?!? The assigned reading for this week was extremely good. (The plus was I only had 3 chapters to read!!) I learned a lot about the influences technology has had on our everyday lives and how it has effected our communication to each other. In a lot of ways we are evolving into a technical world where (excuse my geek-ness) time travel is not just every geeks biggest dream but could be a reality! And yet if you brought someone from any time before the 1990's they wouldn't be able to function in our world. The same can be said for a teenager or someone in their early 20's, if you sent them back to the 40's or 60's they would most likely fail. (Unless they were a girl, we are amazing) (Or maybe a boy scout) My generation is completely dependent on technology. (You know you are don’t even try & fight it! I know you just checked your Facebook!)
Ok now that you got my opinion I can move on. 
I couldn't wait to jump into class and to discuss our different opinion and really learn. But sadly that didn't' really happen. The learning environment turned into a podium or high horse for my teacher. She has what my partner and I called die aria of the mouth! (Thank goodness for beautiful authors who were inspired to teach with their writing!) I walked out of class shaking my head trying to figure out why I just wasted four hours of my life.
I learned:
1. My teacher thinks that parents need to talk about sex drugs and rock’n roll with their kids when they are 4 or 5 because if you don’t someone else will (I don’t know about you but the 4 year olds I know are learning that when you go to the bathroom, you don’t have to strip down. And that you have to put back on all of your clothes when you’re done!!!)
2. There is no such thing as quality television (Ever hear of Animal planet and the history channel!)
3. American Soap Operas are a waste of time! You would watch Latin American ones! (My mother loves those stupid things so be quiet! It keeps her occupied)
4. Verizon and Google are going to take over the world (I live Verizon and Google but seriously the world?)
5. Bing is stupid! Google it, no one is going to say Bing it! (this one made me laugh out loud and I got in trouble)
6. If you want your kids to be stupid you should let them watch TV (there is a lot of truth to this but let me remind you that I only know the word Abra means open in Spanish because Dora taught it to me!)
7. TV is for people that can’t read. (I love to read but you just can’t fit glee into a book!)
8. Social Networking is great for reconnecting with people but not for stupid games (true that!)
9. You Tube is a waste of space. (I love YouTube!! I can find anything on there! Movie Trailers, Blogs, News, Everything!!)
10. If you are working together you need to communicate! (the best part about this is that it’s true but if you tell the class that you want them to talk about the subject in a group and then you talk over them and don’t give them time to communicate you are a hypocrite!)

  1. I love reading your blog, it is so well written and entertaining to boot! Don't worry, along your way you'll have many "fluff" classes that don't do much for your education but boost your g.p.a. It's all worth it in the end. ;) Love you!
